Installing electric cookers always sounds like a simple job, almost a case of just plug it in and you are good to go, however, in reality installing an electric cooker is a complex job that should only be attempted by a qualified electrician.
Electric cookers need a larger current than a lot of other electrical appliances as they need to generate a lot of heat, it is for this reason that an electric cooker must be installed by a qualified electrician to assess the current demand of the new appliance to check that the circuit and fuse/ MCB is suitable for it.
With so many electrical items around the house the need for additional sockets has increased in recent years.
It is quite usual now to have at least 2 to 4 double sockets per room.
Additional new sockets for outside equipment - These sockets need to be protected by RCDs to make sure that they give the maximum safety for the users and other people in the vicinity.
RCDs work by guaranteeing a very fast trip time to cut our fault current, in event of an electrical fault, to prevent electrical shocks.
I can meet all your electrical power & lighting needs.
From minor repairs to a faulty light to a full rewire of lighting circuits.
Im STROMA registered and Part P registered with years of experience in this area.
Below is a detailed list of services we are often called on to provide for domestic householders.
Repairs to faulty lights and switches.
Loss of power to socket circuit.
Replacement of lights.
Installing external sockets.
Installing additional lights in bathrooms and kitchens.
Electrics in the garden come under the part P law (domestic electrical safety law introduced in 2005 to improve electrical safety in home).
This requires that electrics are installed by a competant electrician and are wired to 17th edition wiring regulations.
More commonly now electrical items are being installed outdoors.
This increases the risk of electric shock.
The risk of electric shock in the garden is higher than in the home, as people often use leads for the equipment which can be cut or damaged.
RCDs protect humans against electrocution in a way that fuses and circuit breakers do not.
If you have a new circuit installed, or a circuit is substantially modified, you may be required to have an RCD fitted under the Building Regulations (Part P) or BS7671 wiring regulations.
This is a legal requirement.
RCDs can be fitted to specific circuits, such as power showers, if you have an older fuseboard which does not support RCDs.
Alternatively, you may consider replacing a fuseboard with a more modern consumer unit which incorporates full RCD protection.
