Under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 employers have a duty to ensure that the electrical equipment they provide complies with regulations and are safe for use by employees and visitors.
Test One engineers carry out visual inspections, to check for damage to plug, fuse or appliance itself, and assess whether the appliance is correctly wired.
Next, they carry out earth continuity tests, earth leakage tests, polarity tests and insulations tests, using specialist, calibrated testing apparatus.

Frequency depends upon the type of installation, its use and operation, quality and frequency of maintenance and any external influences.
DAILY: Check indicator light and that all maintained luminaires are operating.
Check that any previously recorded fault has been rectified.
Record any faults.
MONTHLY: In addition to the daily test procedures you must simulate a mains failure of no more than j of the rated duration.
YEARLY: Simulates a mains failure for the full rated duration of the luminaire.
